Williston Park wins Williamsport District Championship for the first time!        Final Majors (11/12) District Bracket         Championship Photos

For the first time since the establishment of the Williston Park Little League in 1951, the League has won the Little League Baseball Williamsport District Championship! This is a great achievement for the town of Williston Park.

The local Little League Baseball District consists of Port Washington, Merillon (from New Hyde Park), Manhasset, Roslyn, East Williston, Albertson-Herricks, and Williston Park. Williston Park is now the 11/12-year-old District Champion for 2004 and advances to the Little League Baseball Long Island Sections which provides an opportunity for Williston Park to qualify for the New York State Williamsport Championship round.

In this year’s Williamsport double-elimination tournament, Williston Park needed to win four games against the top Little League teams within the District to advance to the Long Island Sections.

In game-1 of the Williamsport District Tournament, Williston Park defeated Albertson-Herricks by a score of 5-0. The game was scoreless and suspended due to rain after 3 innings but Williston Park scored five runs in the 5th inning (of the resumed game) behind singles by Rich Doyle and John Quinn, a 2-RBI double by Danny Martinucci, a single by John Urbank, and a 3-run home run by Casey Cunningham. The very important opening game victory also included a fine defensive play by Jimmy Bulva.

In game-2, Williston Park played Merillon and exploded for 10 runs in the first four innings to defeat Merillon by a score of 10-0. The game was highlighted by another big home run from Casey Cunningham, the timely hitting of Jimmy Bulva, Rich Doyle (2 hits), Matt Goodrich, Danny Martinucci, John Quinn, Mark Scaringi, and John Urbank (3 hits). The win also included the strong defense of Kevin Fearon and Matt Lanfair along with the 2-hit pitching of Chris Serrano.

In game-3, Williston Park played Port Washington in the semi-final District game with Williston Park scoring 3 runs in the 3rd inning and 6 runs in the 4th inning to defeat Port Washington by a score of 9-2. The game included several outstanding performances including 3 hits each by John Quinn and Chris Serrano, a lead-off double by Rich Doyle, a key 3-RBI double by Mark Scaringi, and the stellar 3-hit pitching of Casey Cunningham. Kevin Fearon also made two great defensive plays in right field.

In the Championship game (game-4), Williston Park again played Port Washington after Port Washington had eliminated Manhasset from the District Tournament. Williston Park jumped off to an early 4-0 lead and never looked back. The final score was 8-1 which included a big 3-RBI triple by Casey Cunningham, two line-drive RBI hits by Rich Doyle, 3 hits and a 3-hit pitching performance from Chris Serrano, and the timely hitting of Danny Martinucci, John Urbank, and Jimmy Bulva. John Quinn, Kevin Fearon, Matt Lanfair, and Mark Scaringi also contributed to the 2004 District Championship win.

After the impressive District Championship (the first in 53 years!), the boys of Williston Park now advance to the 2004 Williamsport Long Island Sections which begin on Saturday, July 24th.
