WPLL 11/12 Tournament Team Advances to Championship
Series! The Williston Park Little League (WPLL) 11/12-year-old Tournament Team continued their winning ways this past weekend (11/1/2003) by defeating Port Washington in the Diamond Pro’s 12&Under Semi-Final Playoff Series. The team now advances into the Diamond Pro’s 12&Under Championship Series. The Williston Park team is currently undefeated (22-0) this Fall, which includes their Championship win at the Triple Crown Series in North Branford, Connecticut, during Columbus Day weekend. This upcoming weekend (11/8/2003), the team will play a best 2-of-3 Championship Series to crown the 12&Under Diamond Pro’s Fall Champion. In game-1 of the best 2-of-3 Playoff Series, Williston Park defeated Port Washington by a score of 9-0. Williston Park was led by the strong pitching of Chris Serrano (4 IP, 8 K), Pat Martinucci (1 IP, 3 K), and Casey Cunningham (1 IP, 2 K); the timely hitting of Pat Martinucci (2-for-3, HR), Matt Malley (3-for-3, RBI), TJ Arsenault (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Jimmy Bulva (1-for-3, RBI), and Rich Doyle (1-for-3, RBI); along with the strong defense of Chris McCormick, Danny McEnery, Danny Martinucci, and John Urbank; and the smart base-running of Brendan Reynolds and Matt Lanfair. In game-2, Port Washington jumped off to an early 1-0 start. Williston Park then quickly responded in the bottom of the 1st with two runs to take a 2-1 lead, behind a single by Chris McCormick and a home-run by Casey Cunningham. Port Washington then tied the game 2-2 in the 3rd but Williston Park again responded with four unanswered runs behind a two-out 2-RBI clutch single by Jimmy Bulva in the 3rd (to score Chris Serrano and TJ Arsenault); and two-out RBI singles by Pat Martinucci and Casey Cunningham in the 4th (to score Danny Martinucci and John Urbank). The final score was 6-2 with Williston Park receiving stellar pitching from TJ Arsenault (4 IP, 9 K) and Pat Martinucci (2 IP, 3K) along with the strong defense of Brendan Reynolds, Matt Malley, Rich Doyle, Danny McEnery, and Matt Lanfair. The two-game series sweep of Port Washington now advances Williston Park into the Diamond Pro’s Fall 12&Under Championship Series against the winner of the RGMVM (Queens) / North Riverdale (Bronx) Semi-Final Series.
