WPLL wins Triple Crown Series at Connecticut Sportsplex!                                 Championship Photo

During Columbus Day Weekend, the Williston Park Little League 11/12-year-old Tournament Team went on a road trip to North Branford, Connecticut and won the Triple Crown Series 12&Under Championship at the Connecticut Sportsplex! The Williston Park team received strong pitching, timely hitting, and outstanding defense to win 5 games in two days and take the Triple Crown Series Championship, which now qualifies the Williston Park team for a trip to the Triple Crown Nationals in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 2004.

The Williston Park Team excelled in all areas. The team went 4-0 in pool-play by defeating four strong Northeast teams. Williston Park defeated the USA Mavericks (from New Hampshire), the Bulldogs (from Westport, CT), the Royals (from Hudson Valley, NY), and the Clippers (from Westchester, NY). The 4 victories advanced Williston Park to the Triple Crown Series Championship Game on Columbus Day evening against the winner of the semi-final Playoff Game between the Connecticut Storm and the Westchester Clippers.

In pool-play, Williston Park allowed only 8 total runs in the first four games of the weekend tournament. The team received strong pitching from TJ Arsenault, Pat Martinucci, Casey Cunningham, Matt Malley, and Rich Doyle. The team also received very timely hitting behind the big bats of Chris McCormick, Jimmy Bulva, Danny McEnery, Danny Martinucci, and Chris Serrano. In the field, the team made several great defensive plays including nice catches by Matt Lanfair and Brendan Reynolds.

In the Championship Game, Williston Park played the toughest game of the tournament. The game was tense throughout, but Williston Park held strong and defeated the Westchester Clippers by a final score of 2-0 to win the Triple Crown Series Championship. The game featured the strong pitching of Chris Serrano (who pitched a 2-hit shutout), the very timely hitting of Matt Lanfair and Chris McCormick (to make the score 1-0 in the 3rd inning), the clutch hitting of Casey Cunningham and TJ Arsenault (to advance the score to 2-0 in the 4th inning) and the outstanding defense of Jimmy Bulva, Matt Malley, and Pat Martinucci who each made amazing plays in the field to seal the victory. The game also featured a strong effort by Danny McEnery, Danny Martinucci, Brendan Reynolds, and Rich Doyle.

The Triple Crown Series Championship in Connecticut is an outstanding achievement for the boys of Williston Park. This is the 5th major tournament championship within the past two years for several members of the team. A special thanks also goes out to the families of the team who endured a long wet “exciting” weekend at the Ramada in Connecticut!

The team is also currently participating in the Diamond Pro’s Fall Tournament with the Playoffs scheduled to begin on November 1st. The Williston Park Little League 11/12 Tournament Team is currently 18-0 this Fall … the run continues …
